This may seem like a long time to anyone that is, let's say, waiting for a vacation, or a visit from an old friend, but when you're pregnant, 71 days doesn't seem to long. in 71 days I will be in the hospital having my 3rd child. While there, I will enjoy my one night with all the help I could possibly imagine, and I will enjoy my peaceful alone time with our new baby girl. After that 24 hour period, we will all be thrust into the challenge of fitting baby girl into our already busy routine. School, naps, swim lessons, sports sampler, summer camp...the list can and will get bigger.
Its funny how when you have your first baby, your schedule revolves around them, but once you dive into the world of multiple children, those 2nd, 3rd,...etc babies don't have the luxory of sleeping in the crib for nap if brother has somewhere to be. Nap time is in the car, in the store, or on the couch.
Speaking of naps, I think wishing there will be a time where all three kids are quiet/asleep is pretty silly. The chances of that happening are pretty slim, so I plan on making sure I am up on my vitamins and caffine, so I can keep up with all three until Rob gets home, at which point I will collapse in front of the TV and watch anything that happens to be on.
What I am anxious about the most are the night time feedings. They're easy enough and Rob and I take turns, but there are those nights where baby doesn't go back to sleep very easily afterwards, and those nights where they don't sleep at all. I can remember many an early morning with Middle walking the hallway doing the bounce step until he went to sleep, and then turning on the TV with him asleep in my arms knowing if I even thought about putting him in his crib he would wake up. I watched a lot of infomercials and that really bad news that is on at 3:30 AM. I wonder if Brian Williams had that time slot before becoming the nightly news anchor.
One thing I will have going for me is a 5 year old son that loves to help. Sure he won't be willing EVERY time, but I know he'll be excited to help out and be part of the process when it comes to taking care of his sister (or tister as he calls her). Speaking of which, we still don't have a name. I don't know what it is, but girl names aren't coming to me as readily as boys. We have a few we really like, but neither of us is in LOVE with any particular choice. I think we'll just have to see her first.
So, 71 days and counting. I'll hit the 30 week mark soon and babies can really come anytime after that point. I usually get induced around 38 weeks. Time is going to fly by.

I Need a Name Change
I need to change the name of the blog! Life with boys is messy, but I won't be a mom to just boys soon, so I need a new name. Well, I do suppose Black Bath Water still works. I'm sure my little girl will play in the dirt and scrape her knees just as much as the young guys do, but what should the sub-title be? I would love your suggestions!
While I'm at it, I've never been able to figure out how to have comments post directly to the blog (i.e., under the posts themselves). How do I pick that feature?
Thanks ya'll!

TV! I LOVE IT!
I do, I really LOVE it, but I'm getting frustrated! I thought shows would be returning this week, but when I got to watch during nap time, I have one or two new shows at best. Enough time off slackers, after the writers strike last year, you can not afford to lose viewership with these long breaks! This comment is mainly directed towards HEROS. I am on the verge of purging this from my DVR list because of how long its been since a new episode! I can't even remember how it left off, and really don't even care!
LOST on the other hand...well now, here's a show that can go off the air for almost a year and come back to its adoring and loyal fans. I'll admit I deleted the season pass from the TiVO during season 3 because it was just totally ridiculous, but was told to give it another try and I'm glad I did. The season premier of Season 5 was Wednesday and I finally finished it last night. I'm pretty impressed with how they're going about bringing the flash forwards and the present together in the show. It also doesn't hurt that just about every guy on this show is eye candy...Sawyer being my absolute favorite.
Another show that I LOVE is the Mentalist. I adore, simply adore, Simon Baker as Patrick Jayne in this show. I'm also excited that Bones came back this week as well as House. Two fox shows that I'm hoping won't get canceled for no good reason, as Fox tends to do.
My kids are finding new shows as well, and have fallen in love with Handy Manny. Just today we made a "flicker" out of an old halloween flashlight, which I am now regreting, because the flashlight is junk and I am being asked every five minutes to fix it. I'm going to find a REAL flashlight and nip this in the bud!
update: we made our very own, WORKING, Flicker!

Today is a Day of Hope and Change

What an exciting day. Our first African American President will be sworn in any moment now and I couldn't be more excited. I wish I could be there, and if we still lived back East, I would be there with my kids...crowds be damned! Its worth the hassle to be there in person to see history made.
But, we're in the other "Washington" where, believe it or not, the weather is sunny and the wind is minimal. I've decided, like new years, this is a day of change, and as such, my boys and I have each picked out a pot and spoon to bang together when our new president is officially sworn in.
Today, think of ways you can change. Change your situation, your way of thinking, or your way of doing. Together we can make anything happen!

Finally Getting Back to Normal
Its Wednesday, of the second week of 2009, and we are finally getting back into our normal routine. It feels so good to have it too! School is in full session, the bus is running on time, play dates have been scheduled and extra caricular activities have been attended. Can I say...I'm EXHAUSTED!
But, I love it. The first of extra caricular activities was a sports sampler for Eldgest at the local community center. The first two weeks is soccer. Eldest has always been a little delayed when it comes to group activities. He's not a fan, but he was excited to go to this class, so I had high hopes. These were promptly dashed when we arrived and he cried, didn't want to play, and prefered sneaking into the toddler area to play with riding toys. I stood my ground, and told him he was not allowd in there, and would have to sit and watch the fun if he was not going to participate. I'm sure there are a few moms out there gossiping about the mean mom that gave her 4 year old the riot act about participation in group activities, but I make no apologies. By the end, he was kicking the ball into the goal with the other kids and told me he had fun. Imagine that! We don't have this class next week because of the holiday, which I'm hoping doesn't ruin the five minutes of progress we made at the end of class this week. Watch, he'll love playing soccer just as they change the sport to basketball!
The second extra caricular activity is swimming. This I knew he would love. Rob is taking him at night and last night was his first group lesson. Swimming was the opposite of Sports Sampler. He jumped right in and participated in class well, and then cried when it was time to get out of the pool. We're making progress! Getting burgers and ice cream afterwards also seems to help in aiding his good behavior!
The only regression we've had in all this is putting Middle in the crib. We had moved him to a big boy bed, which seemed to be working, but he's getting his bottom teeth and when he wakes up in the middle of the night, he will NOT stay in bed, so we're putting him in the crib until this passes and will put him back in the room with Eldest once he's sleeping better.
I wish I could write more, but Middle has taken to poking my arm with his head while I'm on the computer which is very annoying, and if I wait to long, he'll simply turn it off, so I better go before I lose all this wonderful literature!

SCHOOOOOOOLS OUT FOR-EVAH
I swear, that is how I feel. First we had flood days in October, then snow days from hell in December (granted most were during Christmas break), then just when school was getting back into session we have more MAJOR flooding. School was on limited bus pick up (thank goodness I'm on that route) Monday because it snowed MORE on Sunday night, then on Tuesday we had normal school (wow, that was wierd), then the heavens opened up and melted all that snow and poured buckets of rain for two days straight, so school was closed yesterday and today. I'm sure tomorrow will be fine, but guess what, my son doesn't go to school on Fridays.
I know some folks may think "What's the big deal, don't you like spending time with your kids?" Of course I do! But its not summer here, its winter, which means RAIN, RAIN, RAIN, SNOW, MORE RAIN! We can't exactly go outside to play, or go to the park, or easily get in the car and travel anywhere without getting major coats, hats, and boots on each time. When there is no school, you go through a panic of wondering what you'll do up until nap time and then how those dreaded "witching hours" will go, since the kids will have been inside all day. My four year old asked if we could go on a walk yesterday afternoon at 4:00. It gets dark here at 4:00, not to mention that it was blowing wind and rain like crazy. He didn't care, he wanted OUT. I did too...we went to starbucks.
The rain has stopped today. The sun may even come out this weekend (and we'll all go blind, since we haven't seen it in months). But more than seeing that bright orange orb in the sky, I want routine! I want the bus to come Monday through Thursday to pick Eldest up next week. I want to wake up and hear that we'll have temps in the 40s with light showers or sun breaks for a week straight, and what I REALLY want this year...more than anything...is to turn my freakin' heat off before JUNE!!!!!!!
Come on Mother Nature, stop being such a b*tch!
